NoIssue: Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month Collaboration

I was honored when noissue - a custom sustainable packaging printing company approached me to collaborate with them to celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month. I thought long and hard about my heritage and my heart kept being drawn back to my late grandpa. He used to run a batik factory in Indonesia before I was born. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Batik is is an Indonesian technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to the whole cloth. This technique originated from the island of Java, Indonesia. Batik patterns are so beautiful, diverse within different parts of Indonesia and intensely intricate. The work my grandparents did at the batik factory was fulfilling even though it was also hard and taxing from stories told to me.
It finally clicked that this is how I would honor my grandparents' artistic passions, by drawing something in my illustration style inspired by batik.
